To Those Living in This World
In the modern world, we may all be the Little Prince to someone. We may gaze upon those who wish to be roses. Yet, we might also be the fox to someone else. Perhaps we are even the "negatively portrayed characters" the Little Prince encounters on other planets. Nonetheless, we all continue to live through our relationships. Now that the pandemic has ended, we finally face one another again, entering a new phase of human connections. This represents a moment to restart and try again. There is no need for everyone to become the Little Prince, nor must we become "something" to someone else. But it is time for us to reflect again. What should we become, and how should we live?
Korean Traditional Music, Dance, and The Little Prince
We aim to convey thish message through a music theater performance based on Korean traditional music (gugak) and dance. The reason we chose gugak and dance is to offer a fresh approach to The Little Prince, which many are familiar with through the original story and various adaptations. Our goal is to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western art forms by incorporating elements like traditional Korean children’s songs into the performance. By focusing on movement as the primary narrative tool, we hope each audience member experiences the performance through their own personal lens. Language, whether Korean or English, can sometimes lose its meaning in translation. To avoid this, we have chosen dance as an additional method of communication, allowing all audience members, regardless of their language abilities, to interpret and take away their own meaning from the performance.
